I was fortunate enough to get a pre-release copy of Daring to Hope: Finding God’s Goodness in the Broken and the Beautiful. This is Katie Davis Major’s second book. I read her first book, Kisses from Katie, about 5 years ago. In KFK, we hear Katie’s story of moving to Uganda in her early 20’s and adopting 12 Ugandan girls as her own daughters. At the time I read it, I had recently returned from living in South Africa, where God burst my heart open for love for Africa and orphans. Reading her example of loving each person as Jesus loved them, greatly inspired me to return to Africa one day.
Daring to Hope has similar characters and stories as Kisses from Katie, but has quite a different feel to the book. KFK seemed more fairytale and Daring to Hope is more real life and relatable to us all. It’s finding God’s truth and goodness in the everyday struggles and difficulties of life. Yes, Katie has different circumstances than most of us, but I found myself in the story with her. When you dare to hope, you find the truth, that God is with you. Most of us know that following after Jesus is not very easy, but in this book we see that Katie has learned the truth: that whatever difficulties come her way, growing closer to Jesus is the most important thing. He is with us. He is with us. He is with us. Nothing more to know. Give this book a read and hear God speak to you in a close and intimate way.
